The Story
Luther found this car unfinished in California and could not sleep for two nights!! He told me about the car at least 50 times and I would say it became an obsession for those few days,to use his words"I can't sleep that pontiac is haunting me". On a saturday (my day off) I stopped in the shop to pick up some parts about 10:00 am, at 12:30 am we were on our way to California. 900+ miles later we are at the car,boy let me tell ya about this car! The first look my eyes got big, mouth dropped open, an I knew why Luther couldn't sleep. The paint is fantastic a mint green with an off white top, a color that we would later find out was custom mixed to match a wood burning cook stove, a color combo that is perfect for this car. Then we find out the good stuff, they started with a car already in progress, the body was acid dipped all the rust cut out and replaced with new metal, the frame was stripped and fitted with a mustang II front end and a 4 link rear end. The previous owner had spent over 40K at a body shop to have this work done. The engine is a 1994 GM Goodwrench "mexican" crate bored .030 over, crank .010 under and balanced, Seal Power forged pistons and rings, Crane 218/130 duration .459/.486 lift hydraulic cam, Summit aluminum 1.5 aspect ratio roller rockers, Melling high volume oil pump w/ solid louvered windage tray, Brodix aluminum heads w/ 200cc intake ports,64cc combustion chambers, and 2.02/1.60 intake/exhaust valves, Edlelbrock gear drive timing set, Cleavite bearings, Tunnel ram intake manifold w/ two Holley carbs., MSD ignition, March Performance Serpentine belt system, Sandon 506t ac compessor, Gm ps pump. Hooker Super Pro headers w/ custom x pipe Dynamax exhaust and custom built tips remove the spent gasses. Stopping comes from a power dual master to 11" disc brakes all around, The power goes thru a rebuilt and upgraded performance enhanced 700R4 w/ lockup and a 2500 stall converter to a 10 bolt GM rear w/ 3.42 gears and Eaton posi, The mustang II was upgraded with a Fatman Fab. IFS power steering rack and Shock Wave air springs, 2" dropped spindles round out the front, In the rear a Fatman Fab. 4 link w/ Shock Wave air springs,an on board air supply w/storage tank and bag switches and digital readout, Vintage Air ac/heat keeps the inside comfortable while a modified 42 dash keeps track of the vital information, The body has the rear fenders welded and smoothed to the body, remote door openers w/ bear claw latches, and the bumpers moved closer to the body. We found that the builder of this car was building it to keep and to drive, but sometimes life changes our plans, when we got the car there was no interior in it except for the front seat. Luther had already made a deal to buy a car trailer with this car to bring it home on.(this is the tricky part) There was a non driving 55 ford ranch wagon in a shed next to the garage and I just couldn't leave it there. So after some deal'in we now had 2 cars 1 suburban and 1 car trailer, and we are over 900 miles from home. Well with only 350 miles on the clock Luther started for home in the 41 Pontiac. I loaded the 55 on the trailer and tried to keep up. To make a long story short other than the total inability to hear anything but the motor and exhaust (due to no interior,I asked if his ears were bleeding) there wasn't a missed beat on the way home Now comes the good part we turned the car over to Frank at superior custom upholstry in burlington wa. to work his magic. A 12K custom, Base Ball stitched seats, custom door panels, carpet, kick panels, headliner, package tray, trunk all done in ultra leather. Very comfortable and QUIET. What a wonderful car to drive, I don't know how to portray how great this car turned out. It's a see to believe beauty.Inquiry
